Hebrews 2:13-18… Divine clothed in flesh.

Hebrews 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

  • Isaiah 8:16-18 “Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. And I will wait upon the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him. Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.”
  • John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
  • Ephesians 1:12-14 “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
  • 1 Corinthians 6:20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

What Paul is trying to get across to the people is the fact that God himself has fulfilled the requirements for the sacrifice. Look at the Instructions according to Scripture.

  • Leviticus 16:7-10 “And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord’s lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.”

We can parallel this with the lives of Yeshua and of HaSatan. Yeshua (Jesus in Greek) is our sacrifice, our atonement, and Satan has been cast into the wilderness.

  • Leviticus 16:30-31 “For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the Lord. It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute forever.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death* he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

  • θάνατος, that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul from the body by which the life on earth is ended:
  • Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

When Paul states these words the mind of the reader would have gone to the following passages (plus a few more)…. or they should have recalled these passages… This examples the physical Israel and we know that this Law of Sin which equals death applies to Spiritual Israel too.

  • Genesis 17:14 “And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.
  • Exodus 12:19 “Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.”
  • Leviticus 7:27″Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”

Hebrews 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

  • Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
  • 2 Timothy 1:7″For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
  • 1 John 4:18″There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

This is the epitome of the faith in YHVH… absolute confidence in the promise of life everlasting. This makes me question why … why do we fear the death of the physical shell? Is it going to hurt? Probably…. but not nearly as bad as missing eternity. This is why we praise Yah! Look at Job 14:14 … Job knew… without doubt and this is why Paul knew it too….

  • Job 14:14 “If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”
  • Job 19:25 “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:52 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

People attribute to Paul the “New” when it come to faith or what they label as Christianity… quite the opposite. Paul affirms the Torah! (Romans 3:31) Resurrection was a huge debate in the first century and Yeshua himself affirms and explains it in the parable format.

  • John 12:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”
  • Matthew 13:3-8 “And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

It is very apparent from the Scriptures that we will face the death of the flesh at some point. Why worry about it?

Hebrews 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Sit down and buckle up cause this one will be a rough one for many. The modern era church does nothing to help the convert to faith in the area of the fallen angels. They may breeze by with the “War in Heaven” and theories of a world the existed and was eradicated all within the confines of Genesis 1:2. Personally I have not ascended completely to this concept, rather, I believe that God is having a conversation with the simple goat herder Moses. If approached from a relational standpoint then this would make perfect sense.

[paraphrased] God says “I made everything and then it all was destroyed with water.” Moses: “OK but what happened in-between?” And God entertains Moses’ curiosity and goes into details from verse 3 and beyond.

Back to the Angels…

Genesis 6:1-5 “And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

The beginning of the 501(c)3 disaster starts right here in Genesis. Multiple commentaries supply us with the “group think” and try to dispel any attempt to associate this to heavenly beings. This despite the evidence to the contrary.

  • Jude 1:6,14-15 “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
  • 2 Peter 2:4-5 “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly”
  • Enoch 12:3-7; 13:1-3 “I, Enoch, was blessing the great Lord and King of peace. And behold the Watchers called me Enoch the scribe. Then the Lord said to me: Enoch, scribe of righteousness, go tell the Watchers of heaven, who have deserted the lofty sky, and their holy everlasting station, who have been polluted with women. And have done as the sons of men do, by taking to themselves wives, and who have been greatly corrupted on the earth; That on the earth they shall never obtain peace and remission of sin. For they shall not rejoice in their offspring; they shall behold the slaughter of their beloved; shall lament for the destruction of their sons; and shall petition for ever; but shall not obtain mercy and peace. Then Enoch, passing on, said to Azazyel: Thou shalt not obtain peace. A great sentence is gone forth against thee. He shall bind thee; Neither shall relief, mercy, and supplication be thine, on account of the oppression which thou hast taught; And on account of every act of blasphemy, tyranny, and sin, which thou hast discovered to the children of men.”

These powerful beings desecrated the creation and violated the Torah of Heaven. This extreme punishment was handed out for our benefit as the punishment has to fit the crime. Also, we can see the enormous mercy displayed by YHVH in the redemption of mankind. The “Good News” is that God made a way for us.

  • John 8:42-44 “Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

We are talking about the Spiritual War that originated in Heaven. The separation of Spiritual Israel and the children of wickedness. The whole reason for Paul’s instructions in Ephesians 6, Romans 9, and Galatians.

  • Romans 9:6-8 “Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
  • Ephesians 6:12″For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
  • Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Hebrews 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

  • Philippians 2:5-7 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
  • John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

God is continually asking us in the Torah to assimilate ourselves into what He has established. Later in the book Paul will detail this for us in the Grafting of the two trees.

Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

  • Isaiah 7:14-15 “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.”
  • Matthew 3:4 “And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.”

The mention of ‘butter and honey’ or ‘locusts and honey’ is most commonly associated to ‘desperate times’ or tribulation. Yeshua came as an example for us. A living “How To” book on the ways to please God. What are you willing to endure to make it to the end? He stepped down out of Heaven, bore flesh and took on the sins of the world.

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
