Tying the Testaments together

Acts 3:17-23

“And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.  But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. Repent ye therefore, and be converted*, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.”

*G1994 ἐπιστρέφω epistrepho (e-piy-stre’-fō) v. to revert. [from G1909 and G4762] a state of being, to turn back

You have to ask yourself “what would they need to return to?” The plain and simple answer is – Torah! The reference made here by Peter is to Deuteronomy 18…

Deuteronomy 18:13-19  “Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.”

What is it that Yeshua says to the people?

Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil**.” ** G4137 πληρόω pleroo (plee-ro’-ō) v. to fully supply, example, fully preach, teach

Matthew 10:5-7  “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven*** is at hand.”  ***The Kingdom of Heaven is a reference to Yeshua himself. Heaven is where man and YHVH reside together.

Matthew 15:24 “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house**** of Israel.”  ****the lost sheep means the people of YHVH that have gone off into the world and followed after it.

We can see Paul spur Timothy with these same instructions…  1 Timothy 6:11-12  “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”

Moses, Paul and Yeshua all teach the people of YHVH to strive for the life lived within the will of YHVH, that being, a life of Torah.
