The Gospel, life and thorns … part 3
Again studying deeper on Deuteronomy 4:1 “Now therefore hearken*, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them**, that ye may live***, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.
*H8085 שָׁמַע shama` (shaw-mah’) v. to hear intelligently, often with implication of obedience.
**H6213 עָשָׂה `asah (aw-saw’) v. to do or make, in the broadest sense to apply to daily life.
*** H2421 חָיָה chayah (chaw-yaw’) v. 1. (literally or figuratively) to live. 2. (causatively) to revive. 3. (specially) to bring back to life (from the dead).
Having heard endless times, from many people the words “I am waiting to hear from God” …I wonder if they are paying attention…. according to this verse God has already spoken! The problem is….. we are not being taught to listen. The discipleship is based on the religion of men and not the instructions of YHVH.
These are the thorns we are warned about repeatedly. The thorns are the pain caused by sins against YHVH. Thistles snag humans while thorns pierce.
Genesis 3:17-19 King James Version (KJV)
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Paul speaks about his own thorn in 2 Corinthians 12:7 “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.”
Yeshua warns the people of the day to watch for these thorns as well.
Luke 8:4-8 King James Version (KJV)
And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
- Matthew 15:9 “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
- Mark 7:7 “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Exodus 16:3 “And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh* pots**, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”*H1320 בָּשָׂר basar “body, (fat, lean) flesh(-ed)” this word is rooted in the similar sounding word H1319 בָּשַׂר basar “to announce (glad news)”The only difference in these words is at the vowel point of the middle character. “-“as opposed to “T” …. Yet there is something significant here. Is it the idea that these people were complaining about the food or could they have been complaining about the instructions they were getting from YHWH? Did they want to return to the ease of idol worship which required no changes to their lives?** H5518 סִיר ciyr (seer) n-m. 1. a pot. 2. (also) a thorn (as springing up rapidly).3. (by implication) a hook.
Again the church tells us falsely, that we cannot keep the commands and again John tells us differently.
1 John 5:2-3 “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
