1 Timothy 4:6-7

1 Timothy 4:6-7

If thou put the brethren in remembrance (under scrutiny/review) of these things, thou shalt be a good (valuable/virtuous) minister (servant in a public post) of Jesus Christ, nourished up (to educate) in the words of faith and of good doctrine (instructions), whereunto thou hast attained (conformed to).

  • Romans 8:29 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
  • Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
  • Ephesians 5:26-27 “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

What was the ONLY “Word” that was available to Paul [and the 1st century believers]? It was the TaNaKh or what we call the Old Testament. There was not a New Testament at that time. Paul is telling us to get our minds right by understanding the instructions of the O.T. and follow them. Humanity speaks all the time about “cleaning up their act” and this is what Paul is telling us. This is how we do just that!

But refuse (shun) profane (heathen/pagan) and old wives’ fables*, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

*G1126 γραώδης graodes (gra-ō’-d̮ees) & G3454 μύθος muthos (mï ’-thos) n. adj. fiction of men and myths

I could go on for hours and days about the fictions of men and myths that humanity just can’t seem to let go. The “church” is equally guilty of propagating the fictions of men and myth to the point of even calling some of it doctrine! Blasphemy on their part? Ask YHVH to reveal this to you in prayer.
