1 Timothy 2:9-15

I will (resolve) therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath (anger/indignation) and doubting (debate).

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel (orderly, good behavior), with shamefacedness (bashfulness) and sobriety (self-control); not with broided hair (elaborate), or gold, or pearls, or costly array (expensive clothing);

10 But (which becometh (be conspicuous) women professing godliness) with good works.

11 Let the woman learn in silence (undisturbed) with all subjection. (whole subordination)

  • This does not mean “to make substandard, slave or subservient” – it means “to allow without hindrance”

12 But I suffer* not a woman to teach**, nor to usurp authority (dominate) over the man, but to be in silence. (*to entrust with a responsibility or duty, ** [a prolonged, causative form of a primary verb dao “to learn”]

13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.(violation)

  • 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
