John 3:16-21

Digging deep into the Word of God this time will be lengthy, so, be ready…

John 3:16-21 King James Version (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I would like to break these verses down to their basic elements. What were the words in their original context? The numbers beside the words are the reference to the Strong’s Concordance of the Greek.

John 3:16 For G1063 God G2316 so G3779 loved G25 the world G2889, that G5620 he gave G1325 his G846 only begotten G3439 Son G5207, that G2443 whosoever G3956 believeth G4100 in G1519 him G846 should G622 not G3361 perish G622, but G235 have G2192 everlasting G166 life G2222.

In order that any and all who believe and commit to Him will not be fully destroyed. Even to hold perpetual life above this mere physical existence.”

Therefore the world and its inhabitants would thoroughly, because of Him, be made whole.”

John 3:17 is the answer for Genesis 3:17!

“And unto Adam he said, “Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.”

John 3:18 He that believeth G4100 on G1519 him G846 is G2919 not G3756 condemned G2919: but G1161 he that believeth G4100 not G3361 is condemned G2919 already G2235, because G3754 he hath G4100 not G3361 believed G4100 in G1519 the name G3686 of the only begotten G3439 Son G5207 of God G2316.

In that the person is not committing to His authority and character as the only-born descendant of God, the Supreme Being, the Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Yahweh by name.”

John 3:19 And G1161 this G3778 is G2076 the condemnation G2920, that G3754 light G5457 is come G2064 into G1519 the world G2889, and G2532 men G444 loved G25 darkness G4655 rather G3123 than G2228 light G5457, because G1063 their G846 deeds G2041 were G2258 evil G4190.

  • A little side note here on the Hebrew use of the word “and” G1161. While many argue that these texts are all Greek, they were most certainly written by (as well as to) a Hebrew. The word “and” in Hebrew is the continuation of thought.

  • G1161 δέ de (d̮e’) conj. also, and, but, moreover
  • G3778 οὗτος houtos (hou’-tos) p:d. this, or that

  • G4190 πονηρός poneros (po-nee-ros’) adj. bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked(-ness) which indicates degeneracy from original virtue.

“Moreover this is the accusation; because {YHVH} has made apparent, or disclosed, His thoughts also into the world and to its inhabitants, these people have a devotion to the darkness of error. Why? Because we can see their actions that agree to wickedness.”

The same writer of this gospel tell us in his letters that sin, or wickedness, is the transgression of the Torah. (1 John 3:4) We can also see that wickedness is directly associated with the transgression of the law in the Prophets. (Isaiah 24.5, Jeremiah 2:8, Daniel 9:11, Hosea 8:1, Amos 2:4)

What did Yeshua say about this?   Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil G4137.”

G4137 πληρόω pleroo (plee-ro’-ō) v. execute (an office), fully preach, example, supply teaching

John 3:20 For G1063 every one G3956 that doeth G4238 evil G5337 hateth G3404 the light G5457, neither G2532 G3756 cometh G2064 to G4314 the light G5457, lest G3363 his G846 deeds G2041 should be reproved G1651.

  • G1063 γάρ gar (ğar’) conj. (properly) assigning a reason.

  1. G5316 to be apparent,
  2. G5346 to disclose or reveal ones thoughts
  • G3363 ἵνα μή hina me (hiy’-na -mee’) prep. in order that, also
  • G2041 ἔργον ergon (er’-ğon) n. work (as an effort or occupation), actions.
  • G1651 ἐλέγχω elegcho (e-leng’-chō) v. to confute, admonish, tell a fault

“The reason all people practice wickedness out of habit is they hate what has been revealed to them, neither will they come to the apparent thought. Also they will not find fault in their actions.”

Humanity has to come to the conclusion that the Torah of YHVH has not been “nailed to the cross”, that it was the PENALTY for sin that was nailed to the cross. That “which is contrary to us” is the curse of death, eternal death.

John 3:21 But G1161 he that doeth G4160 truth G225 cometh G2064 to G4314 the light G5457, that G2443 his G846 deeds G2041 may be made manifest G5319, that G3754 they are G2076 wrought G2038 in G1722 God G2316.

  • G1161 δέ de (d̮e’) conj. also, and, but, moreover
  • G4160 ποιέω poieo (poi-ye’-ō) v. to make or do.
  • G225 ἀλήθεια aletheia (a-lee’-thei-a) n. irrefutable belief**
  • G2064 ἔρχομαι erchomai (er’-cho-mai) v. to come or to go
  • G4314 πρός pros (pros’) prep. toward
  • G5457 φῶς phos (fōs’) n. to shine or make manifest Compare:
  1. G5316 to be apparent,
  2. G5346 to disclose or reveal ones thoughts
  • G2443 ἵνα hina (hiy’-na) conj. in order that, the result of
  • G2041 ἔργον ergon (er’-ğon) n. acts, work (as an effort or occupation).
  • G5319 φανερόω phaneroo (fa-ne-ro’-ō) v. to render apparent.
  • G2076 ἐστί esti (es-tiy’) v. (he, she, it) is
  • G3754 ὅτι hoti (ho’-tiy) conj. as concerning that, as though, because
  • G2038 ἐργάζομαι ergazomai (er-ğa’-zo-mai) v. be engaged in or with
  • G2316 θεός theos (the-os’) n. God, the Supreme Being, the Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Yahweh by name

“Moreover to do (live) an irrefutable faith is to come to the revealed thoughts, that are the result of the actions of him who is concerned with engaging with God the Supreme Being, the Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Yahweh by name.”

** We should marry the scriptures of Matthew 5:17 with John 8:45 when considering what the truth of Yeshua is really about. Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil G4137.”

G4137 πληρόω pleroo (plee-ro’-ō) v. execute (an office), fully preach, example, supply teaching

John 8:45 “And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.”

It all boils down to this question, the same question as in the Garden. Did God really say THAT?

The answer is YES! God the Supreme Being, the Creator, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Yahweh by name said to ….. keep the feasts, follow his ordinances, instructions and commands {Torah} and to be holy as he is holy.

  1. The one sign that we are Yehovah’s people, a segula or peculiar group, is that we observe the Sabbath while the rest of the world observes Sun-god-worship-day as re-established by Constantine (quoting him directly, “…the venerable day of the sun.”). We do not choose to remain in darkness, but seek the Truth!
