Galatians 1:14-23 … dividing from the world

14 And profited (advanced) in the Jews’ religion (the strict adherence of the Pharisees, the Talmud and Halacha) above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,

Acts 9:15 “But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles {foreign nations}, and kings {rulers}, and the children of Israel: {natural born Hebrews}”

16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen (pagan); immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: (He did not ask men’s opinion of what he should do, he had the Scriptures to affirm his call.)

17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me (To get advice from those preaching to the Jews for his call/sermon); but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

This should gain our attention, this is the same time frame as the disciples walking directly with Yeshua. As a personal opinion it “should be” the same amount of time needed to disciple people today to a point they truly understand the writings if we, ourselves, knew them the way the disciples did.

19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.

20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;

22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:

23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. (Belief in Yeshua as Messiah)

This belief that Yeshua was the long sought after Messiah was of grave contention to the Hebrew people. We know that they were looking for the conquering King to relieve the oppression of the Romans, yet Yeshua said of his ministry in the beginning that was not his role.

Look at John 3:17 “For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”

The word ‘condemn’ is the Greek G2919 κρίνω krino (kriy’-nō) v. and it means “go to sue at the law” or “sentence” or “meet out punishment”.

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.
Again we see the focal point of the ministry, it was not to deliver punishment, that will come in the second coming. The point is to bring back as many people from the emptiness of man-made religion and traditions and bring them into right standing with the Father.
Look closely at the following exchange.
The Pharisees:  Matthew 15:2 “Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?”
Jesus’ reply: Matthew 15:3 “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God {sin against God} by your tradition?
What do we hold as righteousness, our traditions? Or the exacting word of God?
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

  1. Jon,

To make your articles more cohesive, you must endeavor to understand the relationship between Hebrew, Israelite and Judean: and the two kingdoms. This is essential to the rest of Scripture, the apostolic writings, and YHWHs plan.

Hebrew: generic term for all of Abraham’s descendants Israelite: generic term for descendants of Jacob-Israel: LATER a term for the Northern kingdom a/k/a Ephraim Judean/Jew: the Southern Kingdom; descendants of Judah, Benjamin, and some of Levi (and some of the northern tribes who escaped before Assyria invaded); ALSO a term in the NT describing the religious leadership.

Also, familiarize yourself with the Torah commands concerning the unfaithful wife, jealous husband, and divorce. Essential to understanding the plan YHWH hid from the Adversary. Jesus exhibited on the cross all the symptoms of the CURSE of the adulterous wife. Then reread Ezekiel 37.

I will send Eric with a book for you, and highlight some theological information about the relationship of the two kingdoms in Jesus’ day. This will make your teaching even better.

Israel/Ephraim is still coveting the ways of the pagans. The disciple’s Job has ALWAYS been to bring Ephraim/sheep BACK to the shepherd. (John 10:16) -Jesus was speaking to Ezekiel 37 when he said this and the Pharisees didn’t think it was possible – Ephraim were as the Gentiles. So, when in the NT, it states ‘gentile’ ….

But, Jesus was sent to die for Ephraim and all who want to join with him, in order to fulfill Ezekiel 37, Jeremiah 31:31, etc., in the future. This was all made clearer at this time for a reason.

    Blessings, brother! And, Shalom!

    Laurie
