Consider this … 2.06.2022 edition

This week has produced some close calls and some bizarre tragic endings for people around me. One battled pneumonia while another was stuck in a blizzard. Then there was news of the man that had one sister die in the New England area on Tuesday and the other sister in Florida dies Wednesday. Sad part was the sisters weren’t even 40 years old.

All of this had me thinking once again about Heaven.

The vast majority believe we die and are taken to some lofty perch to watch the world as it turns. This floating armada of church people cheering on grandkids and praying for the sick. I have even heard people say their 20-something kid is “playing Xbox with God.”

There is another crowd … the rapture crowd… they buy into an idea that they too will some day float off into oblivion.

Here are the verses to consider…

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis 1:8

And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. Zechariah 14:9

The righteous shall never be removed: and the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Proverbs 10:30

And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. Revelation 11:15

Why is the concept of Sheol, or a restored and redeemed earth so difficult for people to understand? In Genesis 3 it tells us that the earth became defiled…. Which means it too must be redeemed… and for what? Oh yeah … OUR inhabitation!

See for yourself in Isaiah chapters 60-66 and Revelation chapters 21 & 22….
