well… God namely!

Exodus 6:3 “.. I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Yehovah was I not known to them.”

There is something very special, um …. incredible, um … sensational, ummmm … really no word I can find… to describe the many, mighty and magnificent names of Yehovah!

The first instance is Genesis 1:1 where we read “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Who IS this God-Creator? What is His character? In a series of blogs titled ‘Namely What’ we discover the depth and beauty of Hebrew names…. imagine if a human name has beauty and depth…. how deep can the names for the Creator-God really be?? {the sound you hear are minds “blowing up” all across the earth}

ĕlōhîm

el-o-heem’; plural of H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:—angels, × exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), × (very) great, judges, × mighty.

This word is translated over 2300 times throughout the Scriptures. The ambiguity of the word ‘elohim’ has created many cults, as well as, well-meaning yet very beguiled religious organizations. The LDS movement is a primary example. To deepen our understanding the Creator-God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Father of Yeshua Messiah, has revealed himself over and over again through the course of the Scriptures and History.

STRONGS H430: אֱלֹהִים noun masculine:

1.plural in number. †a. rulers, judges, either as divine representatives at sacred places or as reflecting divine majesty and power:

Still this is pretty stale yes? There has to be something more to this name!

  • Matthew 10:22 “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name..”
  • Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name..”
  • Mark 9:41 “For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name..”
  • Deuteronomy 10:20 “Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.”

WOW! …. what more could be in store? …….. Start by looking at his interactions with humanity….

Exodus 3:14 “And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.”

God obliged and gave Moses a name: a name that denoted God’s characteristics, and that name was “ehyeh asher ehyeh.” [to bring into existence all that exists]  God gave us that “name” for just this reason, His name is not to be compared with anything, or anyone, else!

Had I been in Moses’ sandals…. “scratching my head” would have been an epic understatement. Fortunately for everyone, God chose to reveal his nature this way to Moses, and not me. Moses knows his place before God and tries to deflect, in verse eleven, “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

Paul tells us why in Acts 7:22 “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.” God knew Moses’ character as well. Does God know…. wait do YOU know your own character? When life is pressing down, when the job sucks, when the teenager resists, when the church fails, when you cant “see” God?

To the prophet Isaiah He says, “I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another” Here we get the name Yehovah. Strong’s H3068 Jehovah = “the existing One”, יְהֹוָה Yᵉhôvâh, yeh-ho-vaw’; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jeho-vah, the proper name of the One true God:” occurs 6,521 times in 5,520 verses in the Hebrew. ….WOW! … [this will be a multi-WOW article]

mind blown
