Isaiah 28:1 “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!”
Ephraim אֶפְרַיִם ʼEphrayim, ef-rah’-yim; dual of masculine form of H672; double fruit; Ephrajim, a son of Joseph; also the tribe descended from him, and its territory:—Ephraim, Ephraimites.
According to the Book of Genesis, the second son of Joseph and Asenath. Asenath was an Egyptian woman whom Pharaoh gave to Joseph as wife, and the daughter of Potipherah, a priest of On.
This is a word picture for all of humanity to grasp. The God of creation…. YHVH …. wanted to include every tongue, tribe and nation (Rom 14:11, Phil 2:11) would be included in His glorious plan of salvation!
The wine represents doctrine, and so, these people were overcome with their control of religious affairs, and they were getting rich off of it. (John 2:14)
Sound familiar?
Verses eight to ten really bring it home….
8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.[everyone is teaching false doctrine]
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
{here’s a gut punch… and Paul repeats it! Hebrews 5:12… and like all my writings I use many corresponding verses to bring home the point…. and here is why…}
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
God has blended the message of His path to the Kingdom of Heaven with beauty and variety, with flawed and weary people, with the parables and allegories of the Scriptures…. and to most it is hidden….
“But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen..”
Proverbs 25:2 “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”
When the average benchwarmer turns into the true student of the word, when they stop accepting entertainment as teaching, when they move to true submission to the Savior… then and only then will their prayer of 2 Chronicles 7:14…
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
The alley oop for the slam dunk come from Paul to Timothy….
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Benchwarmers its time to truly wake up and hear the call. You need to be “wise as serpents” because the snake has crept in and convinced the pulpit the art of wine making! You need to know the scripture for yourself… else you be snared.
Isaiah 8:13 But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
This warning was to this generation too!
