Digging deep in Deuteronomy 4:1

4 Now therefore hearken*, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them**, that ye may live***, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.

*H8085 שָׁמַע shama` (shaw-mah’) v. to hear intelligently, containing implication of obedience.

**H6213 עָשָׂה `asah (aw-saw’) v. to do, make, to apply to daily life.

Luke 10:25-28 “And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life#? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live#.”

#G2222 ζωή zoe (zō-ee’) n. 1. life. (more than merely the present physical or natural life). 2. life-above. (above or elevated in relation to the mere physical condition.)

The strong connotations and direct inferences belong to the Spiritual, Kingdom, or Eternal life. This word deserves special demarcation and attention.

Mark 10:17-19 “And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life#? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother.”

11 But that no man is justified (receives salvation) by the law (Torah) in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just (those saved) shall live by faith.

*Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold, his soul which is lifted up [the proud] is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”

To those that believe every word of YHWH to be truth, they will live as such, seeing that the Torah is righteous instructions for a life pleasing to YHWH.

12 And the law (Obedience to Torah as way of life handed down from parents) is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them (has an active faith in YHVH’s word) shall live# in them.

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles (pagan nations), which followed not after righteousness (following Torah), have attained to righteousness (starting to follow Torah), even the righteousness which is of faith.

31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained (came to faith) to the law of righteousness. (They walked away from YHWH by denying Yeshua and following the works of the law in their own flesh and power)Ezekiel 20:16 “Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.”)

32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; (They could not accept Yeshua: John 1:10-11 “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”)

Leviticus 18:5 “Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live* in them: I am the Lord.”
