John 1:47-49 ….. bearing fruit
“Then Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and said about him, “Here is a true Israelite; no deceit is in him.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” Jesus answered.
“Rabbi,” Nathanael replied, “You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Unlike all other trees, the fig tree has this unique feature about it, that its fruit appears before its leaves. It is as though the clothing of the tree is the aftermath of bearing fruit.
Is the outward appearance of more importance? Is the outward show of religious observance, the ceremonial actions, or the regalia of formal worship of more importance to the church than the habits and actions needed to lead and teach others?
What was our instruction from YHVH?
What does the church teach?
- teach your neighbor the scriptures?
- invite your neighbor to church?
