A Rock and a Hard Place

Exodus 14:1-4 “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth (“mouth of the gorge”), between Migdol (tower) and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea. ”

Baalzephon means Satan, the destroyer or in Egyptian Typhon, the destroyer,  talk about being between a rock and a hard place! Unknown to the people Pharaoh is pushing his way towards them seeking justice.

3 “For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled (lost or wandering) in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. ”

From a strategic military point of view, he had them trapped. Have you ever felt trapped? In a job? In a relationship? In a civic role? In a church? Who hasn’t?

When you are at that point you have to ask yourself “how did I get here”, what roads did you take, and, was it a guided trek? This is what was happening to the Israelites. While Pharaoh thought he had them right where he wanted them…. YHWH KNEW he had them right where he wanted them.

Sometimes YHWH puts us in a place that can look a little intimidating to the human eye, yet He is in perfect control, for a purpose greater than ourselves. This is not to say there isn’t a destroyer out there wanting you to be in a bad place. We have to be in tune with what YHWH has done in the past to connect to people and see if our situation lines up with Scripture.

4 “And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart (Pharaohs contempt for the Hebrew God grew), that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured (כָּבֵד kabed (kaw-ɓade’) to be heavy ) upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord. And they did so.”

YHWH wants us, and the people around us, that the solution to your situation is HIM! Without any doubt being left in anyone’s minds that HE and HE alone is our source of hope, help, healing, most importantly salvation!
