Matthew 3:1-11 … Setting the record straight

Matthew 3:1-11 … Setting the record straight

3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias (Isaiah), saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

(Isaiah 40:3-5 “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”)

And the same John had his raiment (apparel) of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat (nourishment) was locusts and wild honey.

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

And were baptized (immersion) of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation (offspring) of vipers (the snake), who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Bring forth therefore fruits (produce, substance) meet (suitable) for repentance:

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Don’t think for a moment you are special or deserve special attention because you are of a specific tribe of the seed of Abraham, God is no respecter of persons.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees (people): therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear (where we get todays statement “I cannot fill his shoes”): he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

It is interesting to note here that all the gods of Egypt carried the ‘ankh’ symbol. This symbol is resembling a cross with the closed loop at the top. {see photo}

Unknown to the world for centuries this symbol has been describe recently in a two-fold manner: first the three lower portions representing the phallus and the loop representing the vagina. The Egyptian {and almost all other pagan religions} were very focused on fertility. The second, is that this symbol was an outright “finger in the face” of YHWH as it appears to be a sandal strap. This would stand in stark contrast to the scripture we just read. YHWH’s answer is in the next verse….

12 Whose fan (winnowing fork) is in his hand, and he will throughly purge (purify) his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner (storage); but he will burn up the chaff (bad part of the harvested plant/humanity) with unquenchable fire.
