There are many labels one can attach to themselves when one tries to define their relationship with God. Some begin with a church classification; Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic, Nazarene, and so on. Others may begin with a doctrinal statement; Calvinist, Wesleyan, Reformed, or possibly Orthodox. Yet none of these really define relationship, or for that matter, the truth of our faith in YHWH.
YHWH himself says in Exodus 11:7 “But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.”
It is a clearly defined manner, behavior, or way of living which sets apart one group from another. For those of us living in the modern day, we need to realize this is still true, learning the ways that separate us from the world, otherwise known as Egypt.
At the time of the exodus, Egypt was the epicenter of the known world and as such all civil, military and cultural habits were formed for almost all other nearby countries. The satanic worship of idols and elements being first and foremost. This is why YHWH wanted his people out of Egypt.
This story is not just a historical event for the Israelite people; it is a warning to all of us today to leave behind the ways of the world and its demonic idolatry. Today, as it was then, the demonic idolatry is so ingrained into the society many cannot tell the difference. And just how does this happen you ask?
Let’s look at Ezekiel 22:26 ” Her priests have done violence to my law and have profaned my holy things. They have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and they have disregarded my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.”
YHWH wants a clear cut and definite manner of conducting our lives. There are things that are profane and disgusting in the sight of YHWH and HE has already determined what those things are. When we claim His authority over our lives we must focus on the behaviors that are pleasing while repenting (teshuva) from those that are not.
The word “teshuva” means ‘to completely turn away’ from that which is profane or abominable. We are to become distinctly different from the rest of the world, so much so, that they seek to find the traits or behaviors we display. Yet it is patently obvious the people then as well as now struggle to make this happen.
The real problem lies in the willful determination to avoid YHWH’s commands while still claiming the sovereignty and protection of YHWH. This is what is meant by “so that I am profaned among them.” When willfully disobedient people claim the protection of YHWH (saving grace) and their lives display the emptiness thereof, the non-believer questions the validity of YHWH and the need of a Savior. In short when you practice the same idol worship as the heathen they cannot see the true beauty of YHWH and His Messiah.
Leviticus 11:1-11 ” And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat. Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you. These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.”
These are just a few of the food instructions that YHWH gave to His people. Not just the people of the exodus, not just to “Jews”, it was to ALL that call upon the name of YHWH. YHWH gave these instructions to protect us from the disease and infections that these animals carry within their flesh. Many of these were created to rid the planet of such microorganisms and disease and that is specifically why He told us not to eat them.
Here is a list of a few of the over 140 diseases passed from pigs to people:
