Food Fights and Phalse Pharisees

A famous, as often quoted, bible verse is Matthew 15:11 “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.”

The reason this is quoted so often is the attempt to justify eating whatever a person desires. Many decry that the only meat available to most island countries comes from pigs. The Hawaiian luaus are most famous for the poi slathered swine. Humans are great at making any excuse to make life “easier”.

Verse 12 goes on to say, “Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?”

Why were they fussy? Verses one and two define this: Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.”

This wasn’t just “washing up for supper” like my grandmother requested; this was a full-on ceremony that took upwards of twenty minutes to accomplish. This wasn’t about removing dirty and grime; this was their prescribed method of eating with ‘holy’ hands. Every part of the ritual was something a human decided was holy and reverent NOT God. This is why they get an immediate rebuke in verse three.

“But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?”

Continuing on, what Jesus says in the next statement should terrify false teachers still today.

Verse 13 “But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. This is a direct condemnation to the false teachers. They WILL be uprooted and their demise…. verse 14…

Look -> “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” This ditch is actually the pit of hell. These men of religious tradition are blind to the truth of Gods word and they are teaching others to believe their traditions are from God.

Jesus goes on to say “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.” God has already warned them that His Word will not become void. These false prophets are the ones blinded by their religion, traditions and they are leading others to destruction.

The explanation to Peter is a little tougher to unravel for the 501(c)3 corporate church because they know little to nothing about being Hebrew in the first century. Peter is still a little caught up in the difference in physical vs. spiritual hands… must still have water on the brain… lol.

15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth (food as described in Leviticus) goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

Hey Pete… If you got a little dirt (soil) on your hands when you eat the bread you will poop it out… no worries. However, with these Pharisees and all their sneering and jeering … they are doing this out of control, envy and hunger for/maintaining their power.

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

This entire back and forth is about doctrine and not about changing the food laws as many hope. The Pharisees were promoting a false gospel and binding people with laws God never imposed like the excessive handwash ceremony. God has addressed these false prophets and the false ones today.

Jeremiah 23:1-2 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord.

Jeremiah 23:13-16 “And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria;(not Israel {America, UK, etc.}) they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. (preaching lies)

14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

15 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

16 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord.

Do you know the Scriptures well enough to pick out their traditions of men?

Can you see their lies? Many cannot!
