Ezekiel 2:1-3:14 … the Commission

2:1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.

This is the Ruach HaKodesh, or the Spirit of the Living God. Realize Ezekiel is in a different manifestation or dimension of this same Earth. These are things that can be seen only when God removes the veil of separation that was instituted at the fall of Adam.

  • Genesis 3:24 “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”

This veil will be lifted fully at the coming of the Messiah at the end of the age.

And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed (to break away from just authority) against me, even unto this very day.

For they are impudent (making cruel facial gestures) children and stiffhearted (strong willed). I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God.

  • Matthew 19:14 “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
  • Ephesians 5:6 “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.”
  • Luke 1:17 “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (to be lacking or idle), for they are a rebellious house, yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

Paraphrase “At the end of the day they will realize that you bring a message of repentance and salvation from God and mourn at their lack or rejoice in their obedience.

  • Deuteronomy 21:18-19 “If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place”
  • Revelation 21:12 “And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:”
  • Luke 22:28-30 “Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations*. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

*G3986 πειρασμός peirasmos (pei-raz-mos’) n.1. a putting to proof (by experiment (of good), experience (of evil), solicitation, discipline or provocation).2. (by implication) adversity.

Yeshua came to teach the Torah fully, so that, we could understand the Everlasting Gospel. It is the obedience to the Gospel message that leads to the obedience of the Torah. Matthew 12:34 “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” It is the things we say and do as a result of our meeting the Savior that these judges will be measuring. What do they measure against you ask? The Torah. It is one thing to say you believe, another more effective communication are the things you do.

  • Deuteronomy 11:19-22 “And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;”
  • 1 John 2:4-6 “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions (the scourged): be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (to be lacking or idle): for they are most rebellious.

  • Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee. 

And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; (scroll, the word of God)

10 And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without (completeness): and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe. (Heartache because of the disobedience of the mankind)

H5612 סֵפֶר cepher (say’-fer) n-e. to score with a mark as a tally or record. (by implication) to inscribe, and also to enumerate.

Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. (consume or memorize the full word of God and preach it to the people)

So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. (helped my understanding)

And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Once you have the word of God to completely permeate your life; you realize the love and sweetness of Gods desires in the Torah.

  • Psalm 119:103 “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
  • Revelation 10:10 “And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey…”

And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard (numerous) language, but to the house of Israel;

  • Matthew 15:24 “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language (numerous), whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.

But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. (you have the same message I have been giving them all along and they will not change)

  • Exodus 34:9 “And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.”
  • Acts 7:51 “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.”

Behold, I have made thy face (countenance) strong against their faces, and thy forehead (brain/mind) strong against their foreheads.

As an adamant (gem, diamond) harder than flint have I made thy forehead (brain): fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

This character trait of being strong-willed, while useful, can be a dangerous place when strong-willed about the wrong idea.

  • Romans 2:1-6 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds:”

It is your mindset that determines your actions. This is why Paul warned us Acts and Yeshua warns us in the Gospels to “not be deceived” in the latter days. If we are dismissive with the truth, when the lie appears, we are helpless to the lie. The modern church is dismissive to the Law and so they will be dismissive to the Lawless One when he appears.

10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.

  • Revelation 2:7 “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”

11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord God; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. (to be lacking or idle)

12 Then the spirit took me up (sending him off), and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place. (a loud rejoicing)

  • Revelation 14:2 “And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:”

13 I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.

  • Psalm 29:3 “The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.”

14 So the spirit lifted me up (affirmingly; lift up one’s hand in solemn declaration), and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; (heated displeasure, indignation) but the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.

Sounds just like a child this Ezekiel, doesn’t want to clean his room so Dad grabs an ear and “helps” him get things done. Gentle “foot to the butt.”

15 Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

There are so many times that I that I too sit idle in amazement at humanity. It befuddles me to the point I question continuing on in my endeavors. About the time I am ready to throw in the towel, screaming at the sky, “why am I even doing anything because no one is listening”… He firmly and gracefully tells me “because I am Dad and I say so”…. He knows the bigger picture… and I as the child do not have His wisdom or insight.

  • Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

See… that… that is what he wants from us… well not the stubborn part… the obedience to walk out our live in faith that the Word (Torah) is our guide to life.

  • Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
  • Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
