A thought for today…

Israel is not just a territory. Israel is Jacob and all of his household, whether natural born or a sojourner. YHWH speaking to the House of Israel – Numbers 15:16 “One law* and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.” They are not living in the land/territory titled Israel, they were still wandering the desert.

Using Strong’s, the word ‘law’ is H8451 תּוֹרָה towrah (to-raw’) n-f. 1. a teaching precept or statute. 2. (formally) a law. 3. (specially) Torah-Law (i.e. the Ten Royal Edicts (Commandments) and Pentateuch

YHWH gave Moses instructions for the people, His people, so they would behave in a manner to promote wellbeing on all levels, civilly, morally, socially and spiritually. He taught them how to work and live together as well as how to avoid disease and condemnation.

Psalm 19:7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” If we look at the Torah with the concept that they are a way for us to express our love of YHWH, not only to Him, also to the world. Then we would truly be a peculiar nation as no one else would be living in that manner.

It seems to me the word ‘law’ makes them feel like a ball and chain. I also realize there are several of the ‘613’ that are physically impossible to uphold, as well as, the reality of Jesus having been our propitiation for sin, the sacrifices are now irrelevant.

Participating in Sabbath, for example, is not only one of the Ten Commands it is also described as a blessing for mankind.

Matthew 15:24 “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost (perishing) sheep (members) of the house (tribe) of Israel.”

Romans 11:17 “And if some of the branches (members) be broken off (separated themselves), and thou, being a wild olive tree (not of natural descent), wert grafted (considered equal) in among them (natural born Hebrew followers of YHWH) , and with them partakest of the root (receive grace and mercy via Jesus) and fatness (fullness/richness) of the olive tree” (covenant promises)thinking-272677_1280

  1. Remember, even though there are some 613 Instructions (depending how one counts), there are those that only apply to farmers, some for men, some for women, some for children, some for the priesthood, and some for the high priest, etc. Not everyone is to uphold every single one of the Instructions!
