Circumcision and faith ….. ….part 2 Abraham and Genesis 17

Genesis 17:1-2 “ And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly”.

H8549 תָּמִים tamiym is the Hebrew word meaning: without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely. To what would Abram be measured? to be found without blemish? The Torah or the Commands of God, as they existed well before Mt. Sinai would be his measuring stick. Here we see there is something more than just faith and belief in YHVH. There is the condition of obedience to the commands of YHVH in order to make the covenant complete. Has this changed? Not at all!

Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not”

John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Genesis 26:4-5 “And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give     unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be             blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my                         commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

Daniel 9:4 “And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O           Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love             him, and to them that keep his commandments” Hebrews 11:7” By faith Noah, being           warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving       of his house”

Genesis 17:5 “Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram (high/exalted father), but thy name shall be Abraham (father of a multitude); for a father of many nations have I made thee.”

In the Hebrew alphabet the 5th letter ה which is ‘hey’ and it means grace. So Father God adds to their names the title, and the trait, of which He bestows upon them, accrediting righteousness.

In the Book Of Jubilees Chapter 15 YHWH appeared to Abram and Names him Abraham at the feast of the First-fruits.  “And in the fifth year of the fourth week of this jubilee, in the third month, in the middle of the month, Abram celebrated the feast of the first-fruits of the grain harvest. And he offered new offerings on the altar, the first-fruits of the produce, unto YHWH, an heifer and a goat and a sheep on the altar as a burnt sacrifice unto YAHWEH; their fruit offerings and their drink offerings he offered upon the altar with frankincense. And YHWH appeared to Abram, and said to him:”

The same is seen in Genesis 17:7 …. “And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”

1 Chronicles 16:15-17 “Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations; Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant”

Genesis 17:9 “And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.” To further confirm the forever-ness of this covenant, Jesus affirms the covenant in His day, as does the Apostle Paul:

Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” John 8:39 “They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.”)

Genesis 17:10-11 “This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.”

Dispensational theology states that the death and resurrection of Christ nullified all the “laws” or instructions of the Old Testament. We can see from Paul and Timothy’s action in Acts 16 they did not have the same opinion. Acts 16:1-5 “Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek. And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.”

Genesis 17:12-14 “And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.”

Looking back at creation one must ask themselves this question: does the circumcision on the 8th day seem random, or despite everyone’s claim to health reasons, does it signify a connection to the set apart creation of Adam on the 8th day? And, should we continue this practice? 1 Corinthians 6:20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

What is the result of ignoring this covenant? The book of Jubilees makes this even more evident. Jubilees 15:22-29 “And He left off speaking with him, and YAHWEH went up from Abraham. And Abraham did according as YAHWEH had said to him, and he took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and whom he had bought with his money, every male in his house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin. And on the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and all the men of his house, and all those, whom he had bought with money from the children of the stranger, were circumcised with him.

This Torah (instruction) is for all the generations forever, and there is no circumcision of the days, and no omission of one day out of the eight days; for it is an eternal ordinance, ordained and written on the heavenly tablets. And every one that is born, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised on the eighth day, belongs not to the children of the covenant which YAHWEH made with Abraham, but to the children of destruction; nor is there, moreover, any sign on him that he is YAHWEH’s, but (he is destined) to be destroyed and slain from the earth, and to be rooted out of the earth, for he has broken the covenant of YAHWEH our Sovereign Ruler.

For all the malakim (Hebrew term for heavenly beings) of the presence and all the malakim of sanctification have been so created from the day of their creation, and before the malakim of the presence and the malakim of sanctification He has sanctified Yisrael, that they should be with Him and with His kodesh malakim. And do you command the children of Yisrael and let them observe the sign of this covenant for their generations as an eternal ordinance, and they will not be rooted out of the land.

For the command is ordained for a covenant, that they should observe it forever among all the children of Yisrael.”

Note “Yisrael” or Jacob has not been borne yet; nor Moses, yet we see again and again the Torah of God. So, why is YHWH so direct about this command? He wants to separate us from the world that is undisciplined and controlled by Satan. We

see in both Testaments the call to be peculiar or distinct among the people of the earth and both are connected to Yisreal.

Exodus 19:5-6 “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”

1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”

  1. I was asked about this subject because Churchianity teaches Torah is no longer to be performed by Christians. Paul does not speak against circumspection. After all, he circumcised Timothy! He was against it as a means to salvation as the circumcision party claimed.

  2. Bingo! But you won’t hear that in church. For years I discounted Paul’s writings because what was taught and what I read made him seem schizo! Then I really read Rev. 12:17 AND 14:12 and James and 1 John and what Jesus said in the gospel accounts and discovered there was NOTHING against Torah (translated ‘Law’) ANYWHERE!!! May the teachers and preachers be accursed for their false teaching!
